grey’s anatomy redux

Was I the only one who watched Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday
night and came away going “seriously?” I mean, come on. On the Grey’s Writer
blog, Shonda Rhimes describes it as “burning down the house.” Well, okay.
Sometimes I guess it’s good to take everything away, like building blocks and
start over. But, seriously. Everything? Fortunately, I tivo Grey’s, so I was
able to watch it a second time. I guess I must be kind of slow. I didn’t
realize, until the second time I watched it, that Lexie Grey was the same woman
Derek flirted with in the bar the week before. Now, I’m totally disappointed.
Come on. When he met Meredith, it was the night before she started at Seattle
Grace. Fast forward to Lexie, must have been the same thing—wow, I guess I gave
the writers more credit for originality.

I admit it, I love Grey’s, and I do lose myself in watching
it, but hmmmm. I’m just really NOT happy with how it ended this season. It
wasn’t a cliff hanger. It was the aftermath of a cliff hanger, where you were
looking at a car in flames at the bottom of a ravine. At least, that’s how *I*
felt. So why did I feel that way?

Burke and Cristina. I wasn’t really surprised. She was not
into him. She was into the idea of him, but not him. They were not willing to
accept each other for who they were. I thought the writers did an extremely
good job on the whole lead-in to the wedding, from the “choker” collar, to the
eyebrows. The scene where Cristina was standing there, looking like a painted
Geisha was amazing, it was poignant and honest and just “out there.” It was
also incredibly sad to see this strong-willed, self-confident, and powerful
character reduced to nothing but a shell of her former self. I’m hoping that
Cristina will put all of this behind her and come out like a bat of of
you-know-where next season. As for Burke, I have the deepest respect for him,
and I hope they’ll keep him and that he and Cristina will transcend this whole
thing and become an incredible surgical team.

The Chief and Adele. Hurrah. This was my one shining moment
in the whole show. Anyone who knows me at all knows that I believe in the fairy
tale. I love happy endings and I believe in them. I believe that love is
everlasting and that we all deserve it. No surprise that I wasn’t even
surprised a bit by anything that happened with the Chief and Adele. I never
once thought the babies were someone else’s and I never once doubted that Adele
would be back. Go Chief!

George. I’m not going to couple him with anyone here. I just
felt so strongly about George. I’m saddened by the fact that George failed, but
he wasn’t focused. If you remember the day of the test, George spent the entire
time fretting that Meredith wasn’t doing her test. No one noticed that, and no
one probably ever will. In the end, for George, his love for Meredith got in
the way of his dream. Weird, huh?

Izzie and Callie. Um ok. I’m totally disappointed in the
Izzie storyline. I wish they would not make this into a soap opera where
everyone has slept with everyone else. Yuck. That’s not what GA is all about.
Well, I guess it kind of is, at this point, but it shouldn’t be. Izzie needs to
find strength within herself to move forward. She’s still reeling from Denny’s
death and I think George was a convenient landing place. As for Callie, hmmm, now that she’s Chief
Resident, isn’t that going to be interesting? But, again, isn’t it lame that
when Bailey was working toward being Chief Resident she was pregnant and still
name on like a tornado and here we go, Callie is talking about getting
pregnant.

Speaking of Bailey, I was disheartened that she didn’t get
Chief Resident, but a big part of me was glad. There, I said it. I was glad. I
was glad because, to be honest, Bailey is always at the hospital, working, and
Bailey has a small child and no husband. Face it, we’ve never seen Bailey’s
child. Bailey is a flat character at this point, and she needs to be developed
so that we can see all of her many facets. I have a feeling we’d be amazed by
the person she truly could be.

McSteamy… I don’t think Mark was supposed to be a character
forever. I might be wrong, but I feel like he was someone they threw into the
mix as a catalyst. I think he’s probably about done. Whatever. He’s not really
that hot. Seriously. (I don’t like that weird beard thing he had going on.
Yuck)

So that brings us to Derek and Meredith. “It’s over. It’s so
over.” I think it probably is. I think Meredith is going to move forward
finally and face her life. She has had a busy season, and I think, up to the
last episode, she was trying to sweep it all under the rug and move forward. It
will be interesting to see what happens with her next year. At least I hope
they have her really deal with stuff. It’s sad to see Derek finally really
putting himself out there and seeing her totally miss it.

Anyhow, I was disappointed. I don’t know what I expected,
but this wasn’t it. Everything is ripped apart…. It’s going to be a long
summer. Next, they’ll probably change the timeslot. Who knows.

Oh, and ‘"Not a Spinoff" er, I mean "Private Practice", well, the jury is out. Guess we’ll see what happens with that.
